Woodbrook take fourth spot in Irish Archery Team Open
On Sunday 15th of January Dun Laoghaire Archers hosted the Irish Indoor team open in U.C.D. sportshall. Four Teams from Britain and three Teams from Holland traveled to take part in the event. This was Woodbrook's first year entering a team in the tournament.
The Woodbrook team consisted of Harry Lyster, (compound) Colm Griffin (recurve) and Rohan O'Duill (Barebow). Team Woodbrook defeated the Holland B team and Team Sports-link to secure third place in the group stages and went on to play the Holland C team in the Knockouts. After equaling the Dutch on points there was a six arrow shoot off, with just one member of each team nominated to shoot. Harry was nominated and won by one point.
In the next round Woodbrook came up against a Welsh Lady's team who they defeated by twelve points to six. This victory put Woodbrook through to the semi-finals. Their opponents in the semi's were team D.S.G. who won out in the end.
Woodbrook then Played team Ireland in the third/ fourth place playoff. This match was again to be decided by a six arrow shoot off. Again Harry was nominated. This time he drew with his opponent Keith Hanlon. Rohan was then nominated for the next shoot off which he lost to Darren Daly. Team Woodbrook just missing out on the medals.
Niall Doyle of Woodbrook shot on Shooting Styles team but they failed to make it through the group stages. Serves him right, the traitor.
The tournament was won by the British Midlands Team, who defeated team D.S.G. in the final. The exceptional performance of the tournament must be noted as James Ryan from team D.S.G. who shot outstandingly from start to finish.
The highlights of the event will be aired on R.T.E. on the fourth of February.
