Join the Club
You did a Come & Try and you liked it – great! The next step to joining Wicklow Archers is to complete a beginner’s course. Once you’ve done this, you’re welcome to join Wicklow Archers as a full member and attend our regular Wednesday evening and Sunday morning training sessions.
Daylight permitting we’re at Dargle Valley on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings. During the winter months, Wednesday evening training takes place in St Gerard’s, Bray, with Dargle on a Sunday morning (weather permitting) from 9.30. We kindly ask that archers arrive between 9.30 –10am for Sunday training as the gates will be closed after this for health and safety reasons.
The best way to improve at archery is to practice, so once you join, come along and meet your fellow archers and keep up with your training. It’s a very friendly and inclusive club with members all willing to help out newcomers, as we’ve all been there! There are all levels present, from beginners like yourself to archers who’ve represented Ireland at international level, and believe us, there are no egos allowed!
You’ll get plenty of advice from equipment to form, to competitions.
Speaking of equipment, you’re welcome to use the club’s training/beginners bows when you start but as you get a feel for archery, you’ll want to purchase a bow of your own. There are some excellent archery shops in Ireland with experienced people who’ll guide you through the process, as well as plenty of experience within the club to advise you. We also always have members upgrading their equipment, so there’s often the opportunity to purchase second hand equipment within the club.
